Ernest Zacharevic

Ernest Zacharevic is a multidisciplinary contemporary and public artist. His interest in outdoor pieces is in the interaction between mural and the urban landscape, with concepts arising as part of a spontaneous response to the environment. As well as street works, Ernest creates originals on canvas and found objects alike. In 2012, Zacharevic received worldwide recognition after creating a series of six interactive street art murals depicting scenes of everyday Malaysian life for the George Town Festival. These murals now stand as cultural landmarks in George Town, complete with plaques and frequent queues of people waiting to have their photographs taken with the works. Since his first solo show in Hin Bus Depot, Penang, Malaysia in 2014, he has had solo exhibitions in Montana Gallery, Barcelona, Spain and Underdogs Gallery, Lisbon, Portugal. Amongst other projects, since 2016 Ernest initiated the Splash and Burn Project, an artist-led ”artivism” campaign that used street art to communicate issues concerning the unsustainable production of Palm Oil in South East Asia. Since its inception, the project has collaborated with international artists creating works to generate awareness of the issues towards positive change.
